Faulty Street Lights? Airtricity lo call 1850 372 772 (quote pole no)

Many people complain to me about the quality or rather lack of quality of the street lighting and I must say I would have to agree with them, as even when there were boom times, such lights were never replaced.  Now that resources have disappeared it is even going to be longer before matters improve.  However, I do hope that we dont have to mirror what I observed recently in England, where in some estates the public lighting was shut down from 11pm at night until 6am now thats something to contemplate!!!

St. Patrick’s Roundabout Rochestown Road to be upgraded with additional lane

Currently 70,000 has being sanctioned to install a ‘second’ lane on the St Patrick’s Roundabout and we recently received a report to the effect that WSP Consulting Engineers were engaged to examine traffic congestion on the Rochestown Road. They looked at several options for reducing congestion and produced recommendations for each option. WSP concluded that the best option for reducing traffic congestion on the Rochestown Road is to remove St. Patrick’s Roundabout and to signalise the junction. As a precursor to signalising the junction, a second lane around the existing roundabout coming from Passage West is recommended.

Information in relation to the Annual Household charge

Following many queries in relation to the proposed Annual Household charge I set out further information in relation to same. ANY homeowners refusing to pay the planned annual €100 household charge will not be able to dispose of their property until the sum due has been paid.

If a householder dies owing the charge, it will have to be paid by whomever inherits the property, according to the Department of the Environment. The minister also said that as the charge “represents an additional cost for homeowners”, a facility will be established whereby householders can pay the charge in instalments of €25 every three months rather than as a once-off annual charge.

N25 Update

I am pleased to report that further progress has been made at a pace on this project.  Does anyone else notice how bright the area looks now that all the shrubbery and trees have been removed.  Though it is policy of council to preserve trees where possible however in the name of progress some will have to give way for the greater good. Earthworks in the Bandon Road Roundabout centre island will be continuing for a number of weeks and will
necessitate a number of traffic movements from the roundabout circulating carriageway into the roundabout
centre island itself. Motorists using the roundabout are asked to pay particular attention to roadwork signage
over the coming period and to take due care in relation to construction traffic in the roundabout area. Lane
closures either on the roundabout or on the roundabout approaches are not anticipated over the coming
period.
From a structures point of view the columns at the western side of the Bandon Road Roundabout will be
progressed over the coming weeks and progress here will be readily apparent to motorists using the
roundabout. Construction of the reinforced earth panel wall west of the Bandon Road Roundabout will get
underway before the middle of October and the first concrete pour associated with the proposed structure at
the eastern side of the Bandon Road Roundabout is also scheduled before the middle of October. It is
currently anticipated that at least some of the bridge beams on the western structure at Bandon Road
Roundabout may be in place before Christmas.
Significant earthworks are also continuing in the area south of the existing N25 between Bandon Road
Roundabout and Sarsfield Road Roundabout. Works in this area are scheduled to continue for a number of
months as part of the construction of a dedicated westbound link road parallel to the N25 mainline in this
area.
Plans for demolition of the existing footbridge at Sarsfield Road Roundabout and demolition of the existing
footbridge east of Bandon Road Roundabout are being advanced and a further update will issue under this
heading during week commencing Monday 2nd October 2011.

Presidential Nomination

This morning we had a proposal to put Senator David Norris on the ticket for the Presidental race.  I thought long and hard about the matter and did my best to consult locally before casting my vote.  I know that there will be divided views and that I wont please everybody but I made my decision based on my own experience, the views that were expressed to me in the best interests of all concerned.  I print my speech below .

“My decision has nothing to do with Sexual orientation/religion/age/ or political expediency.  I have always thought Sen Norris an able performer in his duties and interests.

The Presidency of our Country, to my mind, must represent the highest ideals, and at all times his or her actions should subjugate their own ego to actions which mirror or reflect the ethos and ideals aspired to by the Irish people.  He or she must reflect the very DNA of the Irish People.  I cannot believe a call for clemency for the perpetrator of statutory rape is in the DNA of the Irish people.

If their actions cause the value of the highest office into question then they should not be in such a position.
