Preparation of the design and tender documents for the scheme is currently underway. We would anticipate site clearance and site investigation contracts to commence in late May/ early June, which will feed into the final design. We would expect detailed design and contracts documents to be completed by July – these must then be forwarded to the NTA for approval to proceed. We will go to tender for construction immediately on approval from the NTA. Assuming approval is forthcoming in a timely manner, we would anticipate to be in a position to appoint a contractor for the construction in September.
The completed scheme will be very similar to Phase 1 and will include new footpaths, road surfacing, bus stop, cycle lane etc. It also includes for the signalisation of the junction at Maryborough Woods.
At present, we cannot accurately estimate the construction costs – this can only be done when the final design is complete. However, we have received a grant allocation from the NTA for €550k in 2013 for the project.
