Cork County Leads the Way in Housing New Tenants

The Housing Department’s performance is monitored on an annual basis over a suite
of national indicators relating to Housing. Of particular relevance to the management
of the housing waiting list was the total number of new tenants housed over the
calendar year. Cork County Council housed 502 new tenants. This was the highest
number of new tenants in any Local Authority in the country. New tenancies
represented 7.4% of the Council’s total housing stock of 6,815 houses. The Council
allocated 43 one-bed units, 147 two-bed units, 294 three-bed units and 18 four-bed
units to new tenants.
The report provides the results of the National Service Indicators in Local Authorities
for 2010. It provides comparison with the previous years’ performance of local
authorities where this is appropriate, and benchmarks each Authority against the
National Average in respect of each indicator. The report also includes relevant
material, comment and suggestions for further refinement.
The overall housing stock held by Local Authorities Countrywide increased from
126,189 in 2009 to 128,074 in 2010 (+1.5%). The average number of repairs carried
out as a percentage of repair requests increased from 89.7% in 2009 to 91% in 2010.
The Report demonstrates that, in spite of the pressures on local government resources
and finances, the sector continues to provide a wide range of services to a high
standard.
