I was shocked this week when a constituent contacted me and told me that he phoned a major insurance company to seek house insurance, when he mentioned where he lived (Grange) he was told they had no interest in quoting as it was in the Douglas area. I am going to phone the company myself and see if I get the same response. If so, I will then put a motion to Council for the Manager to comment in public on the matter since he had informed us that no person would be denied insurance as a result of the Douglas Flood on 28th June last. He must then take the matter up with the Insurance Federation of Ireland as it has significant implicants for all residents and businesses alike. I will post further when I have checked the facts and will name the Insurance Company if I get the same response.
