New Book by Douglas Citizen = Billy McCarthy= Barnetstown to Ballinglanna
I was recently at the launch of a lovely book written by Billy McCarthy, originally from the South Parish but living in Douglas for 40 years. The book contains lovely verse and short stories by Billy, his son and granddaughter Ciara Murphy. I was particularly taken with one ‘Rash Resolutions’ about giving up the cigs!!!
How difficult it must be. If’ as evidence testifies, one out of every two smokers will die of smoke related diseases, the hardship outlined humouressly in this poem will be worth it. There are many more poems and short stories to gladden the heart and perhaps make us realise how far we have come and perhaps too far in relation to some things. This book would be a lovely momento for friends abroad or for people who like looking through rose tinted glasses (dont we all) and make a timely Christmas present. It is published by Clondesert Publishing Douglas Cork.
