It was interesting to see all media throughout the world headline the elevation of the new Pope Francis. I must say first impressions would seem to be that he is above all a humble man of the people. Various interviews have confirmed that he wears his status in a very humble manner and stays close to the people. I believe, and hope, that he will give people a renewed hope and spirituallity. I think as an intellectual he will interpert the teachings of the church conservatively but communicate in a modern manner and create dialogue and support those who may feel alienated for one reason or another. Political leaders throughout the world would do well not to stray far from their people. Its all very well playing on the world stage but if one’s own people dont have an empathy with you, there wont be any incentive to ‘travel the road with you’
