Night time works are planned over the remaining nights of this week in the Sarsfield Road area. A number of service ducts are to be installed under the existing Sarsfield Road both north and south of the roundabout to facilitate the installation of new services. Im really delighted with the updates from Cork County Council site office.  People are commenting on how the skyline has opened up and the area is much brighter.   We are lucky to have received funding 98M from the Minister for this project.  I think they are even ahead of schedule.!!

Work on demolition of pedestrian bridges at Bandon Road Roundabout and Sarsfield Road Roundabout got underway just after 12 noon today.

As regular commuters will know earthworks are now well advanced in the area south of the N25 extending from Sarsfield Road Roundabout to Bandon Road Roundabout and these works will continue over the coming months. Earthworks are also progressing well in the area west of the Bandon Road Roundabout where construction of reinforced earth walls is nearing substantial completion.

N25 Update

I am pleased to report that further progress has been made at a pace on this project.  Does anyone else notice how bright the area looks now that all the shrubbery and trees have been removed.  Though it is policy of council to preserve trees where possible however in the name of progress some will have to give way for the greater good. Earthworks in the Bandon Road Roundabout centre island will be continuing for a number of weeks and will
necessitate a number of traffic movements from the roundabout circulating carriageway into the roundabout
centre island itself. Motorists using the roundabout are asked to pay particular attention to roadwork signage
over the coming period and to take due care in relation to construction traffic in the roundabout area. Lane
closures either on the roundabout or on the roundabout approaches are not anticipated over the coming
period.
From a structures point of view the columns at the western side of the Bandon Road Roundabout will be
progressed over the coming weeks and progress here will be readily apparent to motorists using the
roundabout. Construction of the reinforced earth panel wall west of the Bandon Road Roundabout will get
underway before the middle of October and the first concrete pour associated with the proposed structure at
the eastern side of the Bandon Road Roundabout is also scheduled before the middle of October. It is
currently anticipated that at least some of the bridge beams on the western structure at Bandon Road
Roundabout may be in place before Christmas.
Significant earthworks are also continuing in the area south of the existing N25 between Bandon Road
Roundabout and Sarsfield Road Roundabout. Works in this area are scheduled to continue for a number of
months as part of the construction of a dedicated westbound link road parallel to the N25 mainline in this
area.
Plans for demolition of the existing footbridge at Sarsfield Road Roundabout and demolition of the existing
footbridge east of Bandon Road Roundabout are being advanced and a further update will issue under this
heading during week commencing Monday 2nd October 2011.
